Why choose orthodontic treatment?
Did you know that millions of Britons are unhappy with the position and appearance of their teeth? As we get older, these problem get worse too.
Being unhappy with the way your teeth look often leads to a feeling of being self-conscious when you’re speaking, smiling, or eating. If these feelings go on for long enough, it can result in low self-esteem.
Orthodontics is a special type of dentistry. It’s the science of making people’s smiles look amazing again. And it’s a brilliant job for any dentist.
Our teams here at Didcot and Oxford get genuine personal and professional satisfaction from seeing our clients’ lives being transformed.

How do we straighten patients’ teeth?
Our orthodontists offer patients at both our Didcot and Oxford practices five of the best and different approaches to straightening and correcting their teeth so that they no longer need to hide their smile.
There are dozens of teeth straightening solutions provided around the world by orthodontics research companies. Our orthodontists have chosen to train for and specialise in five unique approaches so that our patients can choose the one which suits their lives and their needs the best.
It’s understandable but many adult patients are put off by the idea of orthodontic teeth straightening because they’re worried about the effect traditional braces will have on their appearance. When selecting our final five products, each orthodontist involved in the decision made sure that every solution we offered to our patients would be “invisible”.
Our orthodontists decided on the following five teeth straightening treatments for our Didcot and Oxford practices:
Invisalign braces
The Smile Practice is Oxfordshire’s biggest provider of the Invisalign orthodontic brace system. Invisalign is probably the most popular teeth straightening product in the world at the moment.
It’s a clear brace that’s custom-made for your mouth which covers all of your teeth. Over time, the braces gently guide your teeth into the position you agree with your orthodontists at your consultation meeting.

Six Month Smiles
For patients looking for quick and effective results, ask your Didcot or Oxford orthodontist about Six Month Smiles. Six Month Smiles borrows from the tried and tested wire technology but they offer real discretion through the use of comfortable-fitting clear brackets and wires which are the same colour as your teeth.

Inman Aligner
The Inman Aligner is used to straighten overcrowded or protruding front teeth gently but quickly. It can be used either as a standalone treatment or to pre-align teeth for future cosmetic treatment like whitening or veneers.
The Aligner is also removeable, meaning you can take it out to fit with your lifestyle if necessary. The Inman system is minimally-invasive, extremely safe and kind to your teeth.

Lingual Braces
Lingual Braces offers patients a supremely efficient teeth straightening service offering speed, comfort, and discretion. Lingual Braces are virtually undetectable when you’re wearing them because your orthodontist actually fits the wires behind your teeth, not in front.

Quick Straight Teeth
With an average treatment time of up to just 24 weeks, the Quick Straight Teeth orthodontics system offers many advantages for patients only interested in improving the appearance and positioning of their front teeth.
The brackets and the wires used by Quick Straight Teeth are coloured to the hue of your particular teeth, rendering them virtually invisible to the outside world.

Who should visit an orthodontist?
It can be difficult for patients to know if they need to see an orthodontist or not. The five key signs that a patient may need to see an orthodontist are:
Pain or soreness in the mouth, teeth, or gums
A patient’s mouth, teeth or gums are not supposed to hurt. If there isn’t correct alignment of teeth, this can lead to pain or discomfort. An orthodontist can examine a patients mouth to understand whether treatment is needed to alleviate this pain.
Sleep apnoea or breathing difficulties
If a patient is suffering from sleep apnoea or breathing troubles, this could be because of blocked airways which can be attributed to a narrow jaw or misalignment of teeth. If a patient frequently wakes up with a sore throat or snores loudly, this could be because of sleep apnoea caused by orthodontic issues.
Difficulty chewing
When teeth are incorrectly aligned it can be difficult to chew. Malocclusion can cause overbites, underbites, crossbites and open bites which prevent teeth fitting together the way they should.
No confidence when smiling
Sometimes the need for orthodontic treatment is more of a cosmetic issue. If a patient’s smile is crooked, gapped, or uneven, this may cause them to hide their smile. Everyone deserves to smile, and orthodontic treatment can help with this.
Lack of articulation when speaking- lisp or whistle
If a patient finds it difficult to articulate when speaking and has a noticeable lisp or whistle, they may require orthodontic treatment. Overbites and gaps in teeth can cause lisps, whistles and even stuttering or slurring of words. Current teeth placement or jaw structure can restrict movement making it hard for patients to speak freely. Pronouncement of certain words or letters may be difficult for patients too. An orthodontist can help to align teeth and allow patients to articulate better.
How much is treatment from an orthodontist?
At The Smile Practice, we try to make orthodontic treatment as affordable as possible.
Orthodontist fees can vary depending on treatment required. A full list of treatment prices for adults and children can be found on our fees page.
How long does it take to straighten teeth?
Typically, it can take around 6-18 months to straighten teeth and varies from patient to patient and the severity of their situation. An accurate timeline will be given by the Orthodontist during an initial consultation.
Is orthodontic treatment free for under 18’s?
Orthodontic treatment is free for under 18’s with a health need for treatment. However, there is often a high demand for orthodontic treatment and patients can be subject to long waiting times.

Orthodontic treatment review via Google my Business
“I am so happy with my smile after having the Invisalign braces under Ajay’s supervision. He was excellent in providing care and guidance so that treatment would progress as fast as possible.
I was especially happy in the beginning when I didn’t have to chew into the typical gluey mould to take an imprint of my teeth. Ajay used a camera wand to take pictures of my teeth which is more accurate and comfortable than the mould would have been. My treatment progressed more quickly than I’d imagined and I was very happy to see improvements in my teeth every week.
In the final month I was already happy with the result and thought even if my teeth end up like this it would be great. I am now on my final retainer and can’t wait to have the bits on my teeth removed and have them whitened!
I think it will be amazing as already my smile looks so much better due to shift in tooth position. Highly recommend Invisalign treatment at the Smile Practice!”
